Chris Poole and the Riptide Racing team have gotten the 2025 WMRT Season underway with a 3rd Place finish at the 2025 Macao Match Cup. This was a new event and location for the World Match Racing Tour so everyone was trying to learn as much as possible about the venue.
The results on paper didn't look great as we moved through the round robin stage. But the team managed to get enough wins on the board to make it to the quarter-finals in 7th place after some key wins in the final races of the round robin. Despite how it looked on paper the team felt really good as it was the teams first time racing together. The pieces were there the team felt things were clicking well in spite of the scoreboard.
In the quarter finals no one chose the team so the two remaining skippers were Chris Poole and Pauline Courtois and her Match in Pink team. The all female team would take the first win of the quarter-finals before seeing Riptide come back take the next three races (all very close matches) to advance to the semi-finals.
The semi-finals saw the team selected by top seed Ian Williams and his Pindar by Manuport Logistics team. The semis were all close matches with strong pre-starts and leads by Riptide but luck wasn't on Riptide's side in the shifty new venue. Ultimately Ian got the right shifts at the right time to move on the the finals 3-0. Chris has this to say afterwards "I don't think I've ever seen someone get so many shifts to go their way so many times". In the petit-finals the team would face off against fellow American Gavin Brady and his True Blue Racing Team. This series proved quite exciting with some intense pre-starts and penalties and mechanical issues for both teams. In the end Riptide was able to best the former America's Cup skipper 2-0 to secure a podium to start the 2025 WMRT Season. Sailing with the team this week was Ryan Wilmot, Cam Seagreen, and Axel Stordhal.
